DemoCampDC2

  • Date: April 25th
  • Time: 6:30 - 8:00, food/drink to follow for those interested at a location yet to be determined
  • Location: University of Maryland, College Park CSIC Room number: 1115
  • Post Location: to be determined
  • Expected Attendance: All are welcome! Please add yourself to the Attendees list below so we have some idea of the size of the crowd.
  • Format: 4-6 x 10 minute demos

More Location Info

  • Precise lat, long: 38.990000,-76.936350 (good up to GMaps max zoom, verified via satellite view)
  • Accessible from the College Park Metro Station on the Green Line. There's a free shuttle to the campus. (schedule, PDF).
    • Directions from the shuttle stop: head back towards Rt 1 (i.e. away from the Big M). You'll pass the Math and Engineering (Glenn L Martin Hall) buildings on your left and a map of campus on the other side of the road (to the right). At the first (road) intersection you reach, make a left. You should pass a map of the campus and then CSIC is on your right, behind the wind tunnel building. If you get to A.V Williams or the Jeong H. Kim engineering building, you've gone too far.
  • Map of the location, nearby parking, and shuttle stops. A complete list of parking lots can be found on the transportation department's site and they can be found on the campus map.

Mini-FAQ

  • What's the point?
    • We'd like to build an active community for people in the DC area to show up and informally share geeky stuff. Do you have a tool, a piece of software, a set of scripts, new toy, hardware hacks that you want feedback on? Bring it. Show it. Share! Eventually we'd like to organize a BARCampDC as a weekend-long version of DemoCampDC1.
  • Who can come?
    • Everyone is welcome! Just Edit this Page and add your name under Attendees, below, so that we have a rough idea of numbers.
  • What are the rules?
  • Do I have to have a demo?
    • Nope! You are welcome to come along and give feedback to the people who do (or just watch and absorb if you don't feel like talking).
  • What if I do want to demo?
  • Who decides who gets to demo?
    • There are 5 available presentations that are available on a first come, first serve basis. Just edit the wiki page.
  • Have another question?
    • Join the mailing list ask your question, and someone will answer it for you.
  • What facilities are available?
    • There will be a projector and sound system available, with VGA and mini-stereo connectors, and a basic PC (running Windows) available. There are outlets at every seat and a wireless access point will be provided.

Demo Schedule

  • 4-6x10 minute demos
  • Tips for Presenters: Don't just walk through a set of web forms, show us something cool, talk about a hard problem, need some feedback, ask a question

  1. Drew - either virtual world mashups or web2.0 security. Any votes?

virtual world mashups sounds more entertaining for a 10 minute talk

  2. Nikolas - Factor clock
  3. Philip - an emacs hack
  4. How about, mm ... you?
  5. Yet another.

Attendees

IMPORTANT: There is no way to contact attendees if there are changes to the event, i.e., location, after location, cancellation, etc. This means that announcements will be made on the BarCamp-DC Google Group, through a variety of RSS feeds and on this page. If you want to stay up-to-date with the RSS feed, try using Randy's R|Mail but this will subscribe you to all BarCamp.PBWiki.com changes not just DemoCampDC2. (sounds like a feature request to David Weekly ;-)

  1. Nikolas Coukouma
  2. Drew - probably will attend, but not sure. I could demo some of our World of Warcraft Google Maps mashup or perhaps some security-related issues in typical web2.0 apps
  3. Stuart Horner
  4. Will Holcomb
  5. Philip
  6. Andrew
  7. Philip

Not Attending

  1. Ross... I still might try, but it'll require getting out of work early.
  2. Katie... I won't be able to make it this time -- sorry!
